Summary of Responsibilities

The Facilitator will serve as the "mobilizer"/"activator of change" in the pilot schools, to facilitate each school's ability to successfully develop and execute a 2013-14 School Action Plan in one or more of the following areas:

  • School Nutrition – fostering policy and program interventions that increase learning, access to and consumption of healthy foods in schools
  • School Travel Planning/ Active and Safe Routes to School – fostering policy and program interventions that increase walking and cycling to and from school
  • Active Play – fostering policy and program interventions that increase opportunities for physical activity and play in schools

Key Responsibility Areas:

  • Project Management – School Selection & Facilitation Toolkit (20%)
  • Stakeholder Relations & Partner Liaison (30%)
  • School Facilitation (50%)

The Facilitator will be responsible for such activities as:

  • Providing ongoing facilitation and liaison support to/for schools as required
  • Assisting schools in developing a comprehensive School Action Plan for 2013-14
  • Mobilizing a multi-disciplinary school health committee at each pilot school
  • Supporting communication linkages with schools related to evaluation activities (led by Propel)
  • Linking schools with public health and other relevant community partners
  • Providing and/or linking schools to the necessary tools & resources to support implementation of their action plan   
  • Coordinating and delivering presentations to school stakeholders as relevant

The Facilitator will also be responsible for leading all coordination and planning activities among regional partners to compile/ develop the necessary resources and supports as part of the facilitation "toolkit".

Under the supervision of the CCPN Network Manager – Health Promotion, the Facilitator will work closely with the Pilot Project Coordinating Team, school board and school representatives, public health partners, and other relevant community partners.

Qualifications

The Facilitator will possess a sound knowledge base in health promotion, physical activity, and nutrition principles among children and youth. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator and motivator who is passionate about healthy eating and physical activity environments in schools, has a strong working knowledge of regional school settings, and is familiar with comprehensive school health approaches and resources.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in a health-related or education discipline
  • Demonstrated skills in program planning & implementation as well as tracking and reporting on project budgets and workplans (minimum 3 to 5 years relevant work experience)
  • Ability to work and communicate fluently in English
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Creative problem solving skills
  • Strong computer proficiencies (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Access to a personal vehicle for regular travel within Eastern Ontario
  • Flexibility to work some evenings as required

Assets

  • Previous knowledge and working experience in the areas of public health, health promotion, and/or school environments in Ontario
  • Master's degree in health or education-related discipline
