Cardiac Anesthesiology
Education
Supervisor, Post-Graduate and Undergraduate Education, Dr. Donna J. Nicholson
Supervisor, Post-Graduate Fellowship, Dr. Ben Sohmer
Educational activities within Cardiac Anesthesiology take place at the post-graduate and undergraduate levels.
Post-Graduate Education
Educational participation includes residency rotations for the University of Ottawa Department of Anesthesiology Residency Program and Fellowship rotation of the University's Critical Care Program. Dedicated Cardiac Anesthesia rotations, which are usually coordinated with other rotations in both the Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Unit and the Coronary Care Unit, offer a unique cardiac perspective to the University Program. In addition, a dedicated Cardiovascular Core Program is provided as one of the major teaching courses of the University Program.
Undergraduate Education
Division members participate in formal undergraduate training at the University of Ottawa Medical School in the undergraduate general program. Undergraduate rotations in Cardiac Anesthesia are also offered to those interested in or having initial exposure to anesthesia in general.
Post-Graduate Fellowship
The Cardiac Anesthesiology Post-Graduate Fellowship Program provides qualified anesthesiologists an opportunity to learn all aspects of cardiac anesthesiology, including training in transesophageal echocardiography, critical care medicine and anesthesia for non-invasive procedures.
