Clinical Trials

Clinical trials are an important part of clinical practice as they are the ultimate certification that research is valuable and meaningful at the bedside. Participation in these studies can give patients access to new therapies years before they become openly available.

At any one time, there are approximately 100 clinical trials under way at the Heart Institute to examine the safety and efficacy of drug therapies and medical devices. These trials touch on all areas of research. Some are led by us. Others are large, national and international endeavours that we participate in.

These studies are funded by industry, granting agencies, government bodies and the Institute itself. The very specialized nature of the patients and the cardiac care provided represents a significant advantage to researchers and an invaluable resource upon which to leverage our clinical trials expertise.

The Importance of Participation
As important as clinical trials are, nothing can be achieved without the active participation of volunteers. If you are interested in participating in a research study, please take a look at the list below and sort for “recruiting.” If there is a trial that interests you, get in touch with the contact point listed on the trial page.
