Overview
Dr. Darryl Davis is Clinician-Scientist and Cardiac Electrophysiologist in the Division of Electrophysiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa.
Background
Dr. Davis earned his BSc in Biology and Pharmacology from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. At medical school at the University of Ottawa, he completed clinical training in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Cardiac Electrophysiology. During that time, his research focused on the interplay between disorders of cardiac rhythm and therapies. This work led to several papers examining the principles underlying therapeutic interventions (such as defibrillation, cardiac ablation and cardiac resynchronization) and substrate (genetic variants, gender, myocardial dysfunction and pharmacology).
This desire to understand, engage and expand novel cardiac therapies at a fundamental level prompted Dr. Davis to continue his postgraduate training in the laboratory of Dr. Eduardo Marbán. There, he developed novel techniques to culture resident cardiac stem cells from routine myocardial biopsies and novel means of genetically engineering stem cells to enhance potency, engraftment and retention.
