Overview
Dr. Howard Nathan is Director of Research in the Division of Cardiac Anesthesiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute; Professor and Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Ottawa; and member of Active Attending Staff in the Department of Anesthesia at The Ottawa Hospital (Civic Campus).
Background
A graduate of McGill University's Medical School, in Montreal, Dr. Nathan completed his Internship at the Sir Mortimer B. Davis Jewish General Hospital, also in Montreal, before spending five years practicing family medicine in rural Ontario. He then returned to McGill University to complete a Residency in Anesthesiology.
Dr. Nathan then undertook a three-year Research Fellowship in Coronary Physiology at the University of Washington in Seattle, supported by a Fellowship Award from the Medical Research Council of Canada. After three years of post-doctoral training, he accepted a faculty position at the University of Ottawa and obtained a Career Scientist Award from the Ontario Ministry of Health that was extended for the maximum of 10 years. Dr. Nathan has enjoyed uninterrupted peer-reviewed grant support for the past 18 years.
