Overview
Dr. John Macdonald is a cardiac anesthesiologist and critical care medicine specialist at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
Background
Dr. Macdonald obtained his MD from the University of Western Ontario in 1994, followed by a residency in family medicine at Queen's University. In 2002, he completed a residency in anesthesia and fellowship training in critical care medicine at the University of Ottawa.
While at Queen’s, he joined the Canadian Forces (CF) as a medical officer providing primary care and occupational medicine for CF members both at home and deployed. He served in Canada, the Middle East and Africa. More recently, he has served three times in Afghanistan caring for casualties at Kandahar Airfield. He also participates in training CF doctors and medics in Canada.
Dr. Macdonald has worked in both academic centres and community hospitals.
