Overview

Michel Labrosse is Research Associate in the Division of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute with a cross-appointment in the Department of Surgery at the University of Ottawa, where he is also Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. In addition, he serves as Director of the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Biomedical Engineering.

 

Background

 

Labrosse received his Diplôme d’Ingénieur from the École Centrale de Nantes, France, in 1993, with a specialization in structural engineering. He obtained a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the same institution in 1998 and pursued his research work on the finite element modelling of wire ropes and cord-rubber materials during a post-doc at the University of Akron in Ohio. He then spent five years with the Heineman Medical Research Laboratory at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, working on various problems in cardiovascular mechanics related to clinical topics, with Drs. Robicsek and Thubrikar.

Labrosse joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ottawa in 2005 and was tenured in 2008. He teaches mechanical and biomedical engineering at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
