Overview
Dr. Ladislaus Ressler is Assistant Professor in the Division of Cardiac Surgery, Department of Surgery, at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
Background
Dr. Ressler was Staff Cardiac Surgeon and Interim Director of Cardiac Surgery at the South Nuremberg Hospital in Germany from 1994 to 1998. He was a member of the initial team of surgeons that established the cardiac surgery unit at the hospital.
Between 1998 and 2002, he founded and led, as Director of Cardiac Surgery, the Heart Centre in Ingolstadt, Germany. The centre is an independent and specialized hospital, intended solely for surgical heart procedures, and Germany's only privately operated heart surgery clinic.
During this time, Dr. Ressler was an annual Visiting Professor at the Carolinas Heart Institute in Charlotte, North Carolina. He lectured on total arterial revascularization and performed cardiovascular surgery on elderly polymorbide patients at Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary.
After a short period at the University Clinic of Homburg in Germany, Dr. Ressler came to Canada to work at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto as a Clinical Fellow. He joined the Heart Institute in 2006.
