Overview

Erika MacPhee is the Regional Program Educator for the Champlain Local Health Integration Network’s Get with the Guidelines program and is Project Facilitator for the Guidelines Applied in Practice (GAP) Tool. She is also Regional Cardiac Care Coordinator at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.

Background

MacPhee graduated in 1990 from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, with a Bachelor of Nursing science degree and completed her Master’s of Health Sciences Nursing degree in 2007 at Charles Sturt University in Australia.

She began nursing at The Ottawa Hospital in 1990, joining the Heart Institute in 1991. She has worked in multiple roles, including staff RN, Nursing Coordinator, Clinical Nurse Educator, and Regional Program Educator. In her role as educator, she implemented the Acute Coronary Syndrome pathway and GAP Tool at the Heart Institute. She has worked on many patient safety initiatives at the Heart Institute, including the Near Miss reporting phone line, and has presented her work at numerous conferences across Canada. She is actively involved in all the Safer Healthcare Now initiatives (Medication Reconciliation, Surgical Site Infection, Ventilator-Assisted Pneumonia, Central Line Infection) and designated a “Trailblazer” with Safer Healthcare Now. Erika MacPhee is a member of the Canadian Council of Cardiovascular Nurses Association and is a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
