Overview

Dr. Peter Wilkes is an Anesthesiologist and Clinical Associate in the Department of Anesthesia at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. He is also Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa.

Background

Dr. Wilkes has an eclectic academic background. He received his MSc and PhD degrees in environmental/comparative physiology from the University of Calgary and then completed three years of post-doctoral training in the Department of Medical Physiology, also at the University of Calgary. There, he studied renal micropuncture techniques, atrial natriuretic peptide release and the measurement of lower esophageal sphincter pressure, receiving his MD in 1990. This was followed by a Residency in Anesthesia at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, and an Intensive Care Fellowship at the University of Ottawa.

Dr. Wilkes joined the staff at the Heart Institute in 1994, where his clinical responsibilities include the Cardiac Operating Room and the Intensive Care Unit.
