Overview

Robert Reid is Associate Director of the Minto Prevention and Rehabilitation Centre at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa. He is one of Canada’s leading health behavior change experts, particularly concerning smoking cessation, physical activity promotion and cardiovascular rehabilitation.

Reid's research program undertakes to improve the quality and efficiency of chronic disease prevention and management programs. His research group focuses on developing systematic approaches to smoking cessation in hospitalized smokers; promoting exercise and physical activity in patients with heart disease; and examining the effectiveness and cost-efficiency of different models of delivering cardiac rehabilitation and secondary prevention services.

Background

Reid received his BSc in Human Kinetics, MSc in Exercise Physiology and MBA in Marketing from the University of Ottawa, and he earned his PhD in Health Studies from the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario.

He is a past recipient of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada’s New Investigator Award. In 2006, he was awarded the James Hogg Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Institute for Circulatory and Respiratory Health for his contributions to clinical and population health research.
