Overview
Christine Struthers is the Advanced Practice Nurse for the Cardiac Telehealth program at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
Background
Struthers obtained her post-basic BScN in 1983 and her MScN in 2000 from the University of Ottawa. In between, in 1994, she completed a course on cardiac transplantation for cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, and nurse coordinators in Bethesda, Washington.
Struthers has been providing cardiac services to patients and families for more than 20 years as a clinician, educator, researcher, and leader.
As Advanced Practice Nurse of the Cardiac Telehealth program, she develops the strategic plan integrating clinical care, education, and research initiatives and promotes the use of high- and low-bandwidth technologies, such as Telehome Monitoring and Interactive Voice Response in providing expert cardiac care to patients living at a distance.
She is an active member of the Canadian Council of Cardiovascular Nurses, the Canadian Society of Telehealth, the Heart Failure Society of America, and the Canadian Congestive Heart Failure Clinic Network.
