Overview

Lihui Wei is a Research Scientist in Radiochemistry at Nordion, the University of Ottawa Heart Institute’s partner in the Canadian Molecular Imaging Centre of Excellence (CMICE).

Background

Wei received her PhD in Inorganic Chemistry in 2005, with training in Bioinorganic and Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. Her PhD research was design, synthesis, chemical and structural characterization of rhenium and technetium complexes for the development of diagnostic and therapeutic agents in nuclear medicine. She pursued her postdoctoral research at Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, Washington University School of Medicine in the laboratory of Michael Welch in St. Louis, Missouri. Her postdoctoral research focused on radiolabeling of peptides, proteins, antibodies and small molecules with Cu-64, Ga-68, Y-86, Zr-89, In-111 and Tc-94m and in vivo, in vitro biology evaluation of the radiopharmaceuticals as PET/SPECT imaging agents and therapeutic agents.

In 2007, she joined Nordion as a Research Chemist in the research and development group in Kanata, Ontario. She moved to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute in 2009.
