Quit Smoking Program
The Quit Smoking Program has treated more than 1,000 patients to help them quit smoking. Our program is open to both patients and the public and is covered through the provincial health care plan.
Remember, quitting smoking is the single most important thing you can do for your health!
The Quit Smoking Program is an outpatient clinic designed to offer individual appointments for adult smokers who are getting ready to quit smoking. The most up-to-date clinical approaches to treating tobacco dependence are used to develop a personalized plan for quitting.
Treatment and support is provided, under the supervision of the medical director, by smoking cessation nurse specialists.
The Quit Program includes six steps:
- Choosing a Quit Smoking Medication
- Setting Your Quit Date
- The Quit Smoking Outpatient Program
- Preparing for Your Quit Date
- Your First Few Weeks as a Non-Smoker
- Staying Quit
To register, patients first attend one Information Session, which is scheduled monthly. Upon completion of the Information Session, patients are responsible for contacting the administrative assistant at the Quit Smoking Clinic to arrange for their appointments.
The clinic works in conjunction with other health care providers, such as patients’ own family physicians and cardiologists.
