Cardiovascular Endocrinology

Overview

The Cardiovascular Endocrinology Research Program comprises several research and teaching activities related to basic, preclinical, and clinical aspects of heart growth and its endocrine function.

The different projects carried out in the program are grounded on two key discoveries:

  • The discovery that the heart produces hormones referred to as atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) and brain natriuretic factor (BNP)
  • The discovery of LITF, which is a factor that plays a role in cellular differentiation, development, and aging
