SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship Award Recipient
Dr. Karen Bouchard, postdoctoral fellow in behavioural medicine and health psychology working with Dr. Heather Tulloch, has been awarded a two-year postdoctoral fellowship from the Social Sciences and Human Research Council (SSHRC). This fellowship will allow her to pursue additional research in her field of study.
Her research project is titled: Caring for Caregivers: The impact of a relationship-education program on cardiac caregivers’ well-being. It will help researchers and clinicians further understand the unique experiences of cardiac caregivers, a group neglected in the research to date. The project will lead to the development of educational tools and couples-based programs that enhance patient-caregiver relationship quality and the well-being of caregivers. The Heart Institute’s Division of Cardiac Prevention and Rehabilitation is developing a guide for caregivers to provide patients and loved ones with education about how to live well with cardiovascular disease.
