In Memoriam of Dr. Yves Marcel

Dr. Yves MarcelDr. Yves Louis Marcel born February 11, 1937 in Bordeaux, France, passed away peacefully in Ottawa on February 26, 2018 with his family by his side.

Professor Emeritus at the University of Ottawa, Dr. Marcel had a remarkable career as a research scientist and leader at the Institut de Recherches Cliniques de Montréal and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, where in 1992, he formed the very successful Atherosclerosis Research Group and served as Chief Scientific Officer.

Dr. Yves Marcel was awarded the Royal Society of Canada’s McLaughlin Medal in 1997 and the Ottawa Life Sciences Council Annual Achievement Award in 2001.

Dr. Yves Marcel was passionate about science and mentored many young trainees who went on to very successful careers. His other joys in life included sailing, shrimp fishing and gardening at his home in Brittany, France, where his ashes have been spread.

Lovingly remembered and terribly missed by Ruth McPherson, their daughter, Gabrielle, his first wife, Maureen Sullivan and their children, Valerie and Christophe. With deep gratitude for the care and compassion provided by Drs. G. Nicholas, D. Davidson and the nursing staff at the Duke of Devonshire.
