Pandemic Visitation Policy

What to know when visiting a patient during the pandemic at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute

The University of Ottawa Heart Institute is following Low Pandemic Restrictions:

  • Each patient may identify up to two approved visitors. One scheduled visitor may visit per day.
  • Visits must be pre-arranged with the nursing unit.
  • There may be exceptions for inpatient units with unique challenges.
  • Maximum of two visitors at a time, per room.
  • Visitors may be asked to leave if the visit is disruptive for another patient in the same room.
  • Visits are staggered to avoid overcrowding on the unit.
  • Visitors are screened on entry to hospitals.

Visiting hours*:

  • 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

*Visiting hours may change without notice.

The safety of our patients is our top priority. For this reason, the Heart Institute must continue to restrict visitation, as outlined above.

If you have any questions about visiting, please contact the nursing unit you wish to visit.

Important Information for Visitors

  • You may be denied access based on your symptoms, travel history or COVID-19 vaccination status.
  • If you leave the building, please be advised it is possible you might be denied re-entry.
  • If needed, our staff will inform you how to use personal protective equipment (PPE), such as masks, gown, gloves, etc.
  • Our staff will let you know if you should self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms after your visit. This is only needed if you are visiting a COVID-positive patient for compassionate reasons. You may need additional testing or quarantine after visitation.
  • In the case of a COVID-19 outbreak, no visitors will be permitted into the affected area.

We thank you for your understanding and collaboration.
