Function

To provide research assistant support for clinical research projects at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. The incumbent would be working under the supervision of the Manager, Clinical Research and a Sr. Project Manager for assisting with patient visits and subsequent data entry, in addition to other study and project management activities.  

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day operations and responsibilities of a national study in conjunction with the Research Coordinator to ensure completion of study deliverables and outputs.
    • Management and tracking of all patients enrolled at UOHI in conjunction with the Research Coordinator
    • Coordinating and completing participant follow-up assessments according to the research protocol
    • Administering follow-up surveys to enrolled trial participants
    • Enter participant data and conduct data quality assessment activities using online databases
    • Data entry
    • Responsible for managing adjudication process with external /internal physicians
    • Completion of Research Ethics Board Renewals/Submissions and tracking when required
  • Actively contribute to participant screening/study activities in other studies within the research group
  • Regularly meet with research manager and research staff (online and/or in-person)

Basic requirements and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health-related discipline
  • Previous work experience (or equivalent combination of training or experience) in a clinical or research environment 
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills with the ability to multitask are essential for ensuring study progress
  • High level of proficiency with computer software (e.g., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills 

Competencies and suitability

  • Knowledge of the clinical research process and currently trained in GCP, TCPS2.
  • Highly organized and self-directed with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; spoken and written.
  • Bilingualism is an asset.
