Ottawa Heart Institute CEO receives international award for leadership in nuclear cardiology

Dr. Rob Beanlands was awarded the Distinguished Teacher/Clinician Award from the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology.

OTTAWA, September 8, 2025 — The American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC) has awarded Rob Beanlands, MD, president and CEO of the Ottawa Heart Institute with the Distinguished Teacher/Clinician Award, recognizing his outstanding contributions as an educator and clinician in the rapidly evolving field of nuclear cardiology.

Dr. Rob Beanlands is an international leader in cardiovascular imaging and has been considered one of the top ten cardiovascular imaging clinician-scientists in his field worldwide.

Dr. Beanlands is an internationally recognized leader in cardiovascular imaging and the founding director of the National Cardiac PET Centre, Canada’s first such program dedicated to cardiovascular disease. His pioneering research on cardiac blood flow, metabolism, and inflammation has advanced diagnosis and treatment of heart disease, impacting patient care and clinical guidelines worldwide.

“I’m deeply honoured to receive the Distinguished Teacher/Clinician Award,” said Dr. Beanlands. “I believe excellence and impact in cardiovascular care and research begins with a patient-first culture, empowered people, and strong partnerships. This award reflects the incredible dedication and brilliance of the many colleagues, trainees, and collaborators I’ve had the privilege to work alongside throughout my career and have inspired me day-in and day-out. Together, we’ve pushed the boundaries of imaging to improve patient care and heart health for all.”

With over 450 peer-reviewed publications and several leadership roles, including past ASNC president, Dr. Beanlands has helped shape both clinical practice and education in cardiac imaging.

Dr. Beanlands received The Distinguished Teacher/Clinician Award at the ASNC2025 Annual Scientific Session and Exhibition on Saturday, September 6.

Another award presented at ASNC went to Yoshito Kadoya, a clinical fellow in the Division of Cardiology at the Ottawa Heart Institute. His research abstract on Takotsubo earned top recognition and received the Presidential Poster Award. This honour is given to the top 5% of accepted abstracts submitted by ASNC fellows-in-training, recognizing high-quality and novel research. Dr. Rob Beanlands is credited as a co-author on the abstract.
