OTTAWA, September 9, 2026 — The Royal Society of Canada has elected Kelly Cobey, PhD, a scientist at the Ottawa Heart Institute whose work is helping make scientific research more transparent, reliable and trustworthy, to its College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists.
This prestigious recognition, one of the nation’s highest academic honours, celebrates Dr. Cobey’s leadership in metaresearch and open science and her efforts to improve how scientific research is conducted, reported and evaluated.
Dr. Cobey leads the Ottawa Heart Institute’s Metaresearch and Open Science Program and is one of the leads of ARCHIMEDES, a bilingual national digital health data platform that enables researchers to securely collect, share and analyze health data. She is also an associate professor at the University of Ottawa and holds national and international leadership roles advancing responsible research practices.
“I’m deeply honoured to be recognized by the Royal Society of Canada,” said Dr. Kelly Cobey. “My election reflects a broader recognition of the importance of sound science to society, and the imperative to ensure that research is designed, conducted, evaluated, and communicated as rigorously and transparently as possible. I’m grateful to the many researchers, collaborators, and students who have contributed to my work and share in this commitment.”

The Royal Society of Canada recognizes outstanding scholarly, scientific and artistic achievement across the country. Dr. Cobey’s election reflects the national and international reach of her work and is a significant achievement for the Ottawa Heart Institute’s research community.
