The Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic brings cardiologists, respirologists and nurses together from both the Heart Institute and The Ottawa Hospital. This mix of expertise lets us provide comprehensive care for pulmonary hypertension patients.
What to expect
When your doctor refers you to the Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic, your information is reviewed by one of the specialists here. The waiting time for a consultation is four to six weeks, and appointments are scheduled on a priority basis.
If any additional tests are needed before your appointment, the clerk will book them for you .
Your clinic appointment will be with the nurse and one of the physicians. They will review your medical history and current medications with you, and perform a physical exam.
The doctor may order some blood tests to help better diagnose your condition. These tests can be done at the Heart Institute on the same day, at the end of your visit. The doctor may order additional tests which can be scheduled with your follow-up appointment before you leave.
Patient instructions
Please arrive 60 minutes early to allow time to register. The clinic is located on the second floor of the Heart Institute.
After seeing the physician, you may complete a six-minute walk test. Bring comfortable shoes with you for this test. If you wear oxygen, we have wheelchairs with oxygen tanks available by registration. We have volunteers to help and guide you to them.
