The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) has announced the winning recipients of its Project Grant program for Spring 2023 and three University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI) researchers have been awarded $1.96 million in project funding.
The winning researchers from the UOHI for Spring 2023 are listed below:
- Rebecca Mathew, MD
Project: Inotrope versus Placebo Therapy for Cardiogenic Shock
Amount: $447,526 over three years
Co-Investigators: Emilie Belley-Côté, MD (Population Health Research Institute); Benjamin Hibbert, MD, PhD (UOHI); George Wells, PhD (UOHI).
- Jennifer Reed, PhD
Project: Exercise Training in Women with Heart Disease: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Amount: $485,776 over four years
- Alexandre Stewart, PhD
Project: Genetic mechanisms of coronary artery calcification: Focus on IRF2BP2
Amount: $1,025,100 over five years
Co-Investigator: William Stanford, PhD, University of Ottawa
About the program: The CIHR’s Project Grant program is designed to capture ideas with the greatest potential to advance health-related fundamental or applied knowledge, health research, health care, health systems, and/or health outcomes. It supports projects or programs of research proposed and conducted by individual researchers or groups of researchers in all areas of health. The best ideas may stem from new, incremental, innovative, and/or high-risk lines of inquiry; or, knowledge translation approaches.
