Heart Institute saddened by the passing of Canadian scientist and innovator, Dr. Tofy Mussivand

The University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI) is saddened by the passing of Dr. Tofigh (Tofy) Mussivand, an internationally acclaimed and renowned scientist who passed away on January 7, 2024.

For more than 30 years, Dr. Tofy Mussivand served as chair and director of the Cardiovascular Devices Program and Cardiovascular Devices Research Laboratory at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, where he prominently positioned Ottawa and Canada in the fields of medical devices, including artificial hearts as a treatment for heart failure.

Dr. Mussivand will be remembered for his contributions to science, technology and medicine, many of which have shaped the present and future of medical devices and provided major impacts on health care globally.

Today, his colleagues, peers and friends celebrate him as a passionate and decorated leader, problem solver, educator, humanitarian and innovator.
