Ottawa Heart Institute cardiologist Dr. Benjamin Chow earns prestigious nuclear cardiology distinction

OTTAWA, September 17, 2026 — Benjamin Chow, MD, PhD, an internationally recognized leader in cardiovascular imaging at the Ottawa Heart Institute, has been named a Master of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (MASNC), making him only the fifth person in the world to hold both the MASNC and Master of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (MSCCT) designations.

The MASNC designation is reserved for distinguished leaders in nuclear cardiology who have made significant contributions to the field through clinical care, research, education and leadership. The lifetime designation recognizes Dr. Chow’s longstanding contributions to advancing cardiovascular imaging.

Dr. Benjamin Chow is a cardiologist and clinician investigator at the Ottawa Heart Institute and a professor of medicine (cardiology and nuclear medicine) and radiology at the University of Ottawa. He is co-director of cardiac radiology, director of cardiovascular CT and director of the cardiac imaging training program.

“It is a true honour to be recognized by both the ASNC and SCCT,” said Dr. Chow. “The Ottawa Heart Institute is home to world leaders in cardiac imaging, and this recognition reflects the Institute’s longstanding dedication to cardiac imaging, research and patient care.” 

A pioneer in cardiac CT, Dr. Chow was the first cardiologist in Canada with expertise in the field. His research has contributed to the development and global adoption of cardiac CT, and his work spans advanced cardiac imaging including CT, nuclear cardiology, cardiac PET and cardiac MRI.

Dr. Chow has held numerous national and international leadership positions in cardiovascular imaging organizations and serves as executive editor of the Journal of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography. He has been recognized internationally for his contributions to cardiovascular imaging research, education and patient care.

The MASNC recognition took place during the opening general session on September 17 at the ASNC 2026 annual scientific session and exhibition in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A.
