Kathryn Butler Malette is Elected Director, Chair of Quality of Care Committee at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
Kathryn Butler Malette is the former Chair of the Board of Governors at the University of Ottawa (2017-2021) and is retired from her position as Chief Human Resources Officer for the House of Commons of Canada.
She began her career in the healthcare sector where she gained executive leadership experience in human resources management, strategic planning, business transformation and continuity, executive compensation, risk management and corporate governance, through her roles as Vice President of Human Resources at The Ottawa General Hospital, The Ottawa Hospital, Bruyère Continuing Care, and Canadian Blood Services.
As Chief Human Resources Officer for the House of Commons, she oversaw strategic human resources initiatives, labour relations and negotiations, corporate strategic planning, and communications for the institution.
Throughout her career, Kathryn practiced as a mediator for workplace disputes and harassment complaints. She received mediation training at the Canadian International Institute of Applied Negotiation in Ottawa, the Center for Dispute Resolution in Washington, D.C., and in the Program of Instruction for Lawyers at Harvard Law School. Currently, she works as an employer representative on rights and interest arbitration boards for clients within and outside Ottawa and in the federal public sector.
Kathryn received the Vision Award as the Human Resources Professional of the Year from the Human Resources Professional Association of Ontario, and, in 2012, she was honoured with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for her work with the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association.
Fluently bilingual, Kathryn served as Chair of the Board of Service Coordination des services, a social service agency supporting persons with developmental disabilities. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Hospitals of Ontario Pension Plan; the Riverside Hospital; The Royal Ottawa Health Care Group; and The Ottawa Hospital. She was a member of the team that created and set in place the Équipe de santé familiale communautaire de l’est d’Ottawa.
Kathryn is a graduate of the University of Ottawa and is an Emeritus Governor of the University of Ottawa’s Board of Governors.
