Job summary
Reporting to the Research Manager and under the direction of the trial’s Principal Investigator, the Research Assistant (RA) will primarily be responsible for supporting study activities. This includes screening patients, maintaining the Research Ethics Board (REB) binder, and supporting follow-up visits.
The RA will be required to attend team lab meetings each week and monthly clinical research meetings held by the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI) Compliance office. The candidate will be a self-motivated, a highly competent individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills, have a good understanding of research and ethical practice, and possess the knowledge and skills needed to work in a clinical research environment.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate and assist with investigator initiated, low risk clinical, research protocols.
- Provide support to clinical research nurse coordinator in the implementation of multi centre or larger complex clinical research projects.
- Prepare and maintain patient research files, complete case report forms, data entry, schedule appointments.
- Prepare applications, renewals or amendments for REB Committee review; assist with and maintain up to date REB filing for all projects.
- Assist with various aspects of clinical research projects as required by Manager.
- Assist in general office duties as required.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Masters of Science (MSc) in a health-related field.
- Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in clinical research experience and/or administration.
- Detail-orientation with the ability to take responsibility, meet deadlines, and work effectively with supervision.
- Strong computer skills, including demonstrated ability to edit and modify documents using track changes. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Capacity and willing to learn new software, research methods, and work routines quickly, flexibility in responding to new research opportunities as they arise.
Preferred qualifications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and French.
- Experience working in an academic/research environment.
- Clinical Research training/experience.
Working conditions
- Ability to work full time in office.
