OTTAWA, March 18, 2021 – The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) announced the recipients of its Fall 2020 Project Grant competition. Thais Coutinho, MD, and Mireille Ouimet, PhD, along with co-principal investigator Katey Rayner, PhD, from the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, will receive important funding to pursue their innovative research projects over the next five years.
Dr. Coutinho’s project has significant potential to advance the field and improve the health of people with thoracic aortic aneurysms (TAA), a deadly disease of growing incidence in Canada. Drs. Ouimet and Rayner’s project will investigate how biological aging contributes to disease progression in patients with atherosclerosis. For their efforts, Ouimet/Rayner and Coutinho will receive $787,950 and $679,320 respectively over five years.
The CIHR Project Grant program is designed to capture ideas with the greatest potential to advance health-related fundamental or applied knowledge, health research, health care, health systems, and/or health outcomes.
