The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) has announced the winning recipients of its Project Grant program for Fall 2019 and four University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI) researchers have been awarded a combined total of nearly $3 million in project funding.
About the program: The CIHR’s Project Grant program is designed to capture ideas with the greatest potential to advance health-related fundamental or applied knowledge, health research, health care, health systems, and/or health outcomes. It supports projects or programs of research proposed and conducted by individual researchers or groups of researchers in all areas of health. The best ideas may stem from new, incremental, innovative, and/or high-risk lines of inquiry; or, knowledge translation approaches.
The winning researchers from the UOHI for Fall 2019 are listed below:
- Munir Boodhwani, MD
Project: Treatment in Thoracic Aortic aNeurysm: Surgery vs. Surveillance (TITAN:SvS), a multi-center, randomized controlled trial.
Amount: $1,797,750 over five years. - Jodi Edwards, PhD
Project: Investigating the utility of markers of left atrial cardiopathy for the estimation of dementia risk in aging adults.
Amount: $306,001 over three years
Dr. Edwards’ application was ranked first by the review committee. - Katey Rayner, PhD
Project: The pro-death protein MLKL regulates hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic pathways in atherosclerosis.
Amount: $782,595 over five years. - Heather Tulloch, PhD
Project: Psychological Profile and Intervention Needs of Patients with Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection.
Amount: $100,000 over one year.
