Elected Director

Danielle May-Cuconato is an Elected Director of the Board of Directors at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.

Danielle May-Cuconato has served as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Judicial Institute (NJI) since 2018. Her role was established at the direction of the NJI Board of Governors, chaired by the Chief Justice of Canada with a mandate to guide the organization through a transformative period of growth and governance. The NJI operates under a leadership model to ensure a robust management framework while upholding judicial leadership in judicial education.

In addition to her leadership at the NJI, Ms. May-Cuconato is an executive committee member and chairperson of the Finance and Audit Committee on the Board of the International Organization for Judicial Training (IOJT). She has been an engaged member of the IOJT since assuming her role at the NJI, contributing to initiatives to promote the rule of law through strengthened judicial education.

Before joining the NJI, Ms. May-Cuconato built a distinguished career spanning three decades in Canada’s federal public service, including 13 years with the legislative branch of government. She held senior executive roles across multiple portfolios, with notable positions including Secretary General of the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), Vice-President of Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer at the Canada School of Public Service, and Chief of Staff to the Clerk of the Privy Council and Secretary to the Cabinet from 2002 to 2006.

Ms. May-Cuconato holds a Master of Arts in Leadership from Royal Roads University. Her career reflects a deep commitment to excellence in public administration, governance, and judicial education on both national and international stages.
