Le Dr Bernard McDonald est anesthésiologiste, spécialiste en médecine de soins intensifs et chef de la Division d’anesthésiologie cardiaque de l’Institut de cardiologie de l’Université d’Ottawa (ICUO). Il est également professeur adjoint au Département d’anesthésiologie de l’Université d’Ottawa.
Parcours
Le Dr McDonald a étudié à l’Université Queen’s, à Kingston, en Ontario, où il a obtenu son doctorat en médecine (M.D.) et un doctorat en pharmacologie et toxicologie (Ph.D.) en 1996. Il a ensuite fait sa résidence en anesthésie à l’Université d’Ottawa et est devenu associé du Collège royal des médecins et chirurgiens du Canada (FRCPC) en anesthésiologie. Il a ensuite fait une formation complémentaire (fellowship) en médecine de soins intensifs à l’Université d’Ottawa. En 2002, il est entré au service de la Division d’anesthésiologie cardiaque de l’Institut de cardiologie.
Intérêts cliniques et de recherche
Le Dr McDonald exerce activement l'anesthésiologie clinique et la médecine de soins intensifs. Ses champs d’intérêt didactiques portent sur la physiologie cardiovasculaire appliquée, l’évolution à long terme de l’état de santé après une cardiopathie grave et les maladies chroniques graves.
