Inclusivity, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA)

The University of Ottawa Heart Institute as part of its institutional culture recognizes and respects the intrinsic worth, inherent dignity and unique attributes of each person.

The Heart Institute believes that inclusivity, diversity, equity, and accessibility must be hallmarks of our culture.

The Heart Institute acknowledges that equity is achieved by recognizing and addressing barriers to fairness faced by any of our patients, families, and staff.

At the Heart Institute, diversity is achieved by ensuring staff are reflective of the rich mixture of differences found in the community we serve including, but not limited to, differences in race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical or mental abilities, religious beliefs, or perspectives.

The Heart Institute recognizes inclusion is achieved by welcoming diversity, respecting all people, and appreciating that outstanding patient care, research and education can only thrive when we embrace the broadest range of people.
