Liddle, Stephanie

Stephanie Liddle is the manager of the Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.

She is a certified clinical engineer (CCE) and professional engineer (P.Eng) with over 10 years’ experience in leading academic hospitals. She works closely with the clinical departments, information and technology, and other support services. She chairs the Capital Equipment Advisory Committee. Since moving into the biomedical engineering manager role, she has led the team through the complex integration of over 350 critical biomedical devices and systems for the hospital’s launch of an electronic health record, and completion of the Life Support Capital Project (LSCP). Before taking the manager role, Stephanie held the role of LSCP biomedical engineering project manager, where she worked with architects and engineers to ensure the clinical and technology needs of the LSCP were met. Prior to that, she worked as a clinical engineer at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she collaborated with clinical leads on several significant construction and medical device integration projects. She is excited to work with a strong, driven team that shares her vision.

Stephanie Liddle is a  P.Eng and a recognized CCE in Canada and the U.S. Stephanie holds a Master of Health Sciences degree in clinical engineering from the University of Toronto (2009) and Bachelor of Electrical and Biomedical Engineering degree from McMaster University (2007).

Stephanie sits on the Industrial Advisory Board for the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Carleton University. As well, she is a member of the ACCE Body of Knowledge Committee, providing the HTC and future clinical engineers updated information about the industry and best practices.

Research and clinical interests

Stephanie Liddle’s interests include understanding system problems in the hospital environment to find and implement improvements. She believes the proper implementation of medical devices, systems or applications can improve patient safety, care quality and hospital efficiency.
