Dryden, Adam

Adam Dryden, MD, is a staff cardiac anesthesiologist and the perioperative echocardiography lead at the Ottawa Heart Institute.

Background

Dr. Dryden completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of Alberta and a fellowship in cardiac anesthesiology at the Heart Institute, where he was recognized with the 2016 Dr. Wilbert J. Keon Award for Trainee Excellence.

Dr. Dryden has expertise in advanced cardiac imaging and digital health. He holds a master's degree in health information sciences, focusing on the intersection of clinical care and digital infrastructure. He worked as a staff physician at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute in Edmonton before returning to Ottawa, where he now leads the perioperative echocardiography program.

Research and clinical interests

Dr. Dryden’s clinical practice focuses on high-acuity cardiac anesthesia and advanced perioperative transesophageal echocardiography (TEE). As the echo lead, he provides expert guidance for complex structural interventions as a member of the structural heart team, including transcatheter valve repairs and replacements. He has a specialized focus on advanced intraoperative imaging to support aortic valve-sparing and reconstructive procedures. He is also dedicated to TEE education, training colleagues, residents, and fellows to integrate the latest imaging standards into clinical practice.

Dr. Dryden's academic and administrative interests lie in medical informatics and quality improvement. He plays a pivotal role in managing information systems within the Division of Cardiac Anesthesiology and leverages perioperative databases to drive quality improvement.
