Alexa Grudzinski, MD, is a cardiac anesthesiologist at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and an assistant professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa.
Background
Dr. Grudzinski graduated from Western University in 2015 with a bachelor of science in medical sciences with first-class honours. She earned her medical degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 2019. She completed her residency in anesthesiology and pain medicine at the University of Ottawa in 2024.
During her residency, she concurrently obtained a master of public health in clinical effectiveness from Harvard University. She completed her fellowship in cardiac anesthesiology at the Ottawa Heart Institute in 2025 with a clinical focus on structural interventional echocardiography. She joined the Ottawa Heart Institute’s Division of Cardiac Anesthesiology in 2025 and is a member of the Heart Institute’s structural heart team.
Research and clinical interests
Dr. Grudzinski’s research interests include perioperative frailty, prehabilitation, prediction modelling, and quality improvement. She was nationally recognized with the Canadian Anesthesiologists' Society Residents’ Research Grant in 2021. Her clinical and academic interests span all aspects of structural interventional echocardiography as well as the perioperative management of blood transfusion. She is actively involved in medical student and resident education with a focus on perioperative echocardiography.
