DeKemp, Robert

Robert deKemp est physicien principal spécialisé en imagerie cardiaque à l’Institut de cardiologie de l’Université d’Ottawa. Il est également professeur agrégé de médecine, de génie et de physique ainsi que scientifique médical à la Faculté de médecine et membre de la Faculté des études supérieures et postdoctorales de l’Université d’Ottawa. Robert deKemp est aussi professeur auxiliaire de physique et membre de la Faculté des études supérieures et de la recherche à l’Université Carleton.

Parcours

Robert deKemp a obtenu en 1989 un baccalauréat en génie de la conception de systèmes de l’Université de Waterloo, en Ontario. Après avoir travaillé dans les secteurs de la télédétection et de l’imagerie médicale, il a obtenu une maîtrise en sciences physiques médicales et un doctorat en génie informatique et électrique du Département de médecine nucléaire E. S. Garnett de l’Université McMaster, à Hamilton, en Ontario. En 1994, il s’est établi à Ottawa, où il a contribué à mettre sur pied le Centre national de TEP cardiaque, à l’Institut de cardiologie.

Au Canada, Robert deKemp est la sommité en physique de la TEP cardiaque. Il a introduit l’utilisation du 82Rb dans l’imagerie par perfusion au Canada, entre autres les systèmes de perfusion automatisés de 82Rb couramment utilisés à l’Institut de cardiologie de l’Université d’Ottawa depuis 1997.

Il a en outre dirigé l’Institut de physique médicale de l’Université Carleton et été membre du comité de rédaction de la revue Journal of Nuclear Cardiology.

Intérêts cliniques et de recherche

L’intérêt de Robert deKemp se porte sur la physique et le génie de l’imagerie médicale, ce qui comprend la tomographie par émission de positons (TEP), la tomographie par émission monophotonique (SPECT), la tomodensitométrie (TDM), l’angiographie par rayons X et la fusion d’images multimodales.

Il est à mettre au point un indicateur cinétique novateur et des méthodes statistiques paramétriques pour faciliter l’interprétation des séries d’images du débit sanguin et du métabolisme acquises par TEP, et la fusion d’images 3-D de la coronarographie et de la perfusion myocardique. Ses recherches d’avant-garde sur la transmission en mode simple photon dans l’imagerie TEP en trois dimensions ont considérablement amélioré la correction de l’atténuation et constituent désormais la norme commerciale mondiale en ce qui concerne l’acquisition d’images TEP en trois dimensions.
