Le Dr Jean-Yves Dupuis est anesthésiste à la Division d’anesthésiologie cardiaque de l’Institut de cardiologie de l’Université d’Ottawa. Il est en outre professeur agrégé à l’Université d’Ottawa.

Parcours 

En 1978, le Dr Dupuis a obtenu un doctorat en médecine de l’Université de Sherbrooke, au Québec. Après avoir exercé pendant deux ans comme médecin généraliste à l’île de Baffin, dans l’Arctique canadien, puis trois ans à Vanuatu, dans le Pacifique Sud, il a effectué sa résidence en anesthésie à l’Université de Sherbrooke en 1989 avant d’obtenir une bourse qui lui a permis de poursuivre, pendant un an, sa formation en anesthésie cardiaque à l’Université d’Ottawa. C’est à ce moment qu’il s’est découvert un intérêt pour l’insuffisance cardiaque, plus particulièrement pour la relation entre la fonction myocardique et la transduction des signaux qui fait intervenir des récepteurs bêta-adrénergiques. En 1992, après avoir enseigné l’anesthésie pendant un an à l’Université de Sherbrooke, il est entré au service de la Division d’anesthésiologie cardiaque de l’ICUO.

À titre de chercheur principal ou de collaborateur, il prend régulièrement part à des études avec répartition aléatoire unicentrique ou multicentriques qui visent à évaluer de nouveaux médicaments et de nouveaux traitements destinés au contexte périopératoire de la chirurgie cardiaque.

De 1993 à 2000, le Dr Dupuis a été membre actif du comité d’information du Département d’anesthésie de l’Université d’Ottawa, département qui lui a par ailleurs décerné le titre de professeur de l’année en 1994 et en 1999. En 2003, le Dr Dupuis a reçu le prestigieux prix David Roberts pour son rôle de mentor auprès d’un groupe de résidents qui terminaient cette année-là leur formation en anesthésie à l’Université d’Ottawa. Il a supervisé 28 anesthésistes qui ont terminé leur formation en anesthésie cardiaque à l’ICUO.

Intérêts cliniques et de recherche 

Sur le plan de la recherche, le Dr Dupuis s’intéresse tout particulièrement à l’épidémiologie périopératoire et à l’analyse de la pratique médicale auprès des patients ayant subi une opération au cœur.
