Chelsea Moran, PhD, is a health psychologist and clinician investigator at the Ottawa Heart Institute. She is an assistant professor with the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Ottawa. 

Background

Dr. Moran earned a bachelor of science (honours) in psychology at the University of Ottawa, a master of arts in counselling psychology from McGill University, and a PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Calgary. During her doctoral training, she received several prestigious awards recognizing excellence in research and leadership, including the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship and the Killam Laureate Award.

She completed her predoctoral residency in clinical psychology at The Ottawa Hospital, with a rotation at the Ottawa Heart Institute. Following residency, she worked as a psychologist in the Substance Use and Concurrent Disorders Program at The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre before returning to the Heart Institute as psychology staff in 2024. 

Research and clinical interests

Dr. Moran provides psychological assessment and evidence-based treatment for patients living with cardiovascular disease across inpatient and outpatient settings, in French and English. 

Her research focuses on behavioural and psychological interventions that support health behaviour change, treatment adherence, and adjustment to chronic and life-threatening illness. Her methodological expertise includes behavioural clinical trials, evidence synthesis, and open science. She has a clinical and research interest in substance use health, with a focus on improving prevention and treatment approaches for people living with cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Moran leads research and quality improvement initiatives spanning cardiac surgery prehabilitation and cardiovascular rehabilitation, with the goal of integrating evidence-based psychological care into cardiovascular settings.
