Dickie, Sean

Dr. Sean Dickie is a staff anesthesiologist at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Ottawa.

Background

He received his MD degree magna cum laude from the University of Ottawa in 2003.  He was the recipient of the Charles E Frosst award for the highest standing in clinical clerkship as well as the inaugural winner of the Peter Garner Memorial Award.  Having obtained his specialist certification in Anesthesiology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2008, he subsequently completed a clinical cardiac anesthesiology fellowship at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.  He joined the division as a staff anesthesiologist in July 2009.

Dr. Dickie is currently the director of cardiac anesthesiology fellowship program and a member of the undergraduate anesthesia education committee.  He is actively involved in medical student, resident and fellow teaching.  His clinical interests include perioperative echocardiography and perioperative management of blood transfusion and hemostasis.  

Research and clinical interests

Dr Dickie's current clinical areas of interest include perioperative blood conservation, blood product utilization, and point of care coagulation testing. He is actively involved in resident teaching and is the coordinator for cardiac anesthesiology rounds.
