Mehrdad Golian, MD, is a cardiologist and invasive electrophysiologist. Dr. Golian is the Director of Electrophysiology and Arrhythmia Services and Director of the Atrial Fibrillation Clinic at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI). He also leads the Cardiac Device Extraction Program at UOHI. He previously served as Program Director of the Adult Cardiac Electrophysiology and Device Fellowship (2021–2025) and as Director of Quality (2020–2025) at UOHI.

Background

Dr. Mehrdad Golian completed his medical school, internal medicine, and cardiology training at the University of Manitoba, followed by subspecialty fellowship training in cardiac electrophysiology at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. During his fellowship, he was recognized for both his advanced procedural skills and his compassionate approach to patient care. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety from Queen’s University.

Research and clinical interests

His academic focus is on advancing patient safety and quality improvement in cardiovascular care. Clinically, he specializes in the management of complex arrhythmias, with expertise in advanced ablation techniques, complex cardiac device implantation, venoplasty and cardiac device extractions. He also performs procedures with leadless pacemakers and subcutaneous ICDs, expanding access to state-of-the-art device therapies at UOHI.
